FAQ: Frequently asked questions

I have a system with another company. Can I transfer my monitoring to Vigilance Group?

Yes, most alarm systems are compatible with our monitoring center. However, there are a few things to check before transferring your system:

  1. If you are at the end of your contract with your current company, we will connect your system within a few days.
  2. In those rare cases where electronic reprogramming of the alarm panel is not possible, we will replace the system board at minimal cost and connect it to our monitoring center.

No. The security system is connected to a national network of monitoring centers 24 hours a day. Staff acknowledge alarm signals and determine the appropriate action to be taken (validate alarm, call fire department, police or emergency medical personnel, as necessary).

Vigilance Group handles the sale, installation, maintenance and repair of equipment, as well as after-sales service. The monitoring center processes and transmits the various alarm signals received, and is responsible for alarm follow-up.

Monitoring centers are located in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa and Vancouver. The equipment combines state-of-the-art remote monitoring technology with an extensive fiber optic network. In the event of an emergency or disaster, one of these high-tech centers takes over, guaranteeing you uninterrupted service 24 hours a day.

The siren will sound. In the event of an accidental triggering, remain calm. Enter your code on the keypad, pressing down each key to deactivate your system. Wait approximately one minute and then call the monitoring center to let us know (or, if you have one, use your cell phone). Otherwise, an operator will follow the pre-set procedures.

  1. Provide the main telephone number of the premises.
  2. Identify yourself with your PIN.
  3. State your name.
  4. Describe the reason for your call or the cause of the alarm.

When your security system is triggered, an operator dials the number of the protected location. If there is no answer, or if the person answering cannot identify him/herself with a PIN, the operator calls the police (according to established procedures).

The operator tries to reach a contact person on your call list.

In the event of prolonged absence, don’t forget to inform your contacts. If one of the people on your call list arrives on the premises after an alarm has been triggered in your absence, an external verification must first be carried out before entering the protected premises. We strongly recommend that you wait for the police to arrive before entering your home.

For effective intervention, contact persons must remain close to the protected area, have keys to the doors, a code to arm and disarm the system, and a PIN to identify themselves.

Your Vigilance Group security consultant can meet with these people to explain their responsibilities and show them how to activate and deactivate the security system. We suggest you review your call list regularly.

Yes, the WaterCop system is equipped with low-voltage auxiliary contacts and can easily be connected to many home security systems with simple low-voltage cables (cables not included). Please consult your security system professional.

Each WaterCop system can support an unlimited number of temperature and flood sensors. Sensors are placed near or under washing machines, water heaters, ice makers, dishwashers, humidifiers, sinks, toilets, and other appliances that are most likely to be the source of water leaks.

No. The WaterCop control valve and sensors are designed to be installed indoors, in crawl spaces, basements, garages, attics or other areas protected from the elements.

  1. Just a few ounces of water are enough to activate the system, assuming the sensors are correctly placed in a position advantageous for detecting leaks and puddles. Watch the video

You can use the button control on the WaterCop control panel. Our wall-mounted switch (RS100) also lets you turn off the water from an ideal location at the touch of a button.

The WaterCop control valve will remain in the position it was in when the power failure occurred. With the addition of a surge bar with battery backup (UPS), the valve can close in the event of water damage during a power failure. You can also manually change the position of the valve in the event of a power failure.

Although the WaterCop system can’t protect pipes from freezing, WaterCop’s low-temperature sensors can keep a close eye on your plumbing. They monitor the temperature of a specific pipe, such as the one leading to an outside faucet, a sprinkler system, pipes in an attic or a crawl space. When the ambient temperature falls below 3°C (+/- 2°C), the sensor alerts the WaterCop system to cut off the water supply, preventing the risk of flooding from a burst pipe. Although this system can’t protect a pipe from eventually freezing, WaterCop will help reduce flooding should a pipe burst one day.
